Wendi Poole was never good with words. She always used a thousand of them to describe a moment that could've been captured in just a few. Funny thing, though - those thousand words could come out in a heartbeat - an outburst of laughter, a raised eyebrow - in her pictures.
A native of Pensacola, Fla., Wendi grew up in a photographic household. Her father, also a photographer, taught her from an early age that taking a photo involved more than just capturing the image. It involved meeting the subjects, knowing them, and telling their story. That philosophy provided the foundation for Wendi's photographic career, which began with filing negatives for the local newspaper.
Soon Wendi knew she had found her calling. At Western Kentucky University, one of the best photojournalism schools in the U.S., Wendi learned the ins and outs of photojournalism - how to expertly create a story with every shot.
Upon graduation, Wendi quickly found her work appearing in USA Today, the L.A. Times, the Washington Post, Latina Magazina, San Antonio Magazine, ABC television and more.
Even while her photojournalism career was taking off, Wendi relished the opportunity to shoot weddings because, as she puts it, "Each wedding is a story in and of itself - a story made up of a series of the most exquisite moments in someone's life."
Today, with more than fifteen years of experience, Wendi owns her own photography business, Thompson Poole Photography. With Thompson Poole, brides are transported back to their big day - smelling the flowers, feeling the ambiance, tasting the champagne - each time they revisit their custom-made album.
Wendi is a member of the Wedding Photojournalist Association, the National Press Photographers Association and serves on the board of the American Society of Media Photographers. She currently resides in Texas with her husband, Rick, and two dogs, Chewbacca and Frida.
