Last year I had the pleasure of spending the first day of 2011 in Austin, Texas watching Shaela and Bryan get married. It was a perfect start to the year, sharing in the joy of two great people and their wonderful families. Here is to a beautiful 2012! Whoa, I need a break from this Texas heat! So, let’s head back to cooler days of Sarah and Michael’s winter wedding in Bryan, Texas. For this fabulous wedding I had the pleasure of working with my friend, Kelly Hornberger. Sarah and Michael were such a cute couple and I felt blessed to be part of their wedding day.

I’ve always said that cloudy days are God’s natural softbox and this was a perfect example. I love the wintery feel the natural light gives the photos.

Our Wedding Anniversary :: Nine Years and Counting

Today nine years ago I married the man of my dreams. As cliche as it sounds it is true. Rick is an amazing man I thank God everyday for bringing us together. He makes me laugh everyday. My music collection grew ten fold when I married him and you can’t beat that right?

Every anniversary Rick and I exchange traditional wedding anniversary gifts. This brings about creative and interesting gifts and a lot of fun. The nine year anniversary gift is pottery and the modern gift is leather. This is my gift to Rick this year, a Denby pottery mug made in England, a leather journal. I threw in a couple extras including Rick’s favorite candy and tea from Ireland where we honeymooned.

And for laughs here are some photos from our wedding. Please excuse the scan quality I couldn’t find the film scans and used the prints.

Riven Rock Ranch Wedding, Part II :: Amanda & Zan

I’m so excited to share with you some of the amazing details from Amanda and Zan’s wedding. Tricia Hamil with Viridian Design Studio did an amazing job of bringing together Amanda’s style and Zan’s love of golf to create a personalized wedding for the couple. The location is the exquisite Riven Rock Ranch in Comfort, Texas. Cake and cookies by Jen the Cookie Chick. Fantabulous food by Debby Stein of CarteWheels Catering.

Riven Rock Ranch Wedding :: Amanda & Zan

Amanda and Zan’s wedding was perfect in so many ways. Riven Rock Ranch in Comfort, Texas is a truly remarkable place. Perched high above the Guadalupe River overlooking the Texas Hill Country, Riven Rock Ranch manages to perfectly combine the ruggedness of the region with luxurious resort touches, creating an exquisite setting. Add the talents of Tricia Hamil of Viridian Design Studio and you have the magic formula for a beautiful and personal celebration. The exquisite setting, the beautiful details, the flawless execution – while wonderful and what we all dream of for our wedding – Amanda and Zan’s spirit and willingness to embrace the unexpected is what made their wedding perfect!

Zan is an advid golfer and had planned to kick off the wedding weekend with a day of golf with his buddies, but a couple weeks before the wedding he broke his ankle. It was a nasty break and he’d be immobile for weeks. We shuffled our plans and timelines for the wedding day portraits to accommodate his limited mobility. Schedules are the easy part. I was secretly concerned about how it would all impact the wedding. Certainly neither of them imagined Zan hobbling through the wedding weekend.

I should have known better than to worry! I am blessed with amazing clients that understand their wedding day is so much bigger than the décor and details and, well, if there’s an unexpected pair of crutches and a wheelchair thrown into the mix, you simply embrace the challenge and make the best of it!

I mean, who can’t relate to the “middle school sway” for the couple’s first dance and I dare your heart to not be melted by Zan and his daughter dancing in his wheelchair.

It was a hot day and what better way to cool off after outdoor portraits than to stand in front of the fridge. Brilliant!

Austin Rehearsal Dinner at The Belmont :: Heather & Rob

I absolutely love photographing rehearsals dinners and this one was no exception! It’s a great opportunity to get to know the families in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. And, they get to know me better which makes them more comfortable with me during the wedding. By the end of the night I felt like I was just another member of their family. I wonder if they’ll invite me to the next family reunion?

The rehearsal dinner was at the always swanky The Belmont in downtown Austin. As you enter you’re instantly transported to the 1960s Las Vegas.
