Houston Portraits :: Golden Family

I’ve been seeing this field of yellow flowers near my house and have been longing to use it as a backdrop. So, so lovely. I even dragged my dog Chewie out their and bribed him with treats to “model” for me — very entertaining! When fellow photographer & friend, Jonathan Golden, asked me about doing some family photos I immediately knew we had to use the yellow field. Jonathan and his family, including one month old baby Asher, were awesome.

Austin Engagement Photographs :: Heather and Rob

Wow, I had a great afternoon in Austin having fun and laughing a lot with Heather and Rob. We started their engagement session at the site of their first date, the fabulous Blue Star Cafeteria. A huge thank you to Nathan and everyone at Blue Star for being so accommodating. We ended the day perched high above Austin at Mt. Bonnell with a stunning sunset.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t give a shout-out to Heather’s wedding planner, Cortney Zieky of BZ Events for always being on top of the details! Brides, if you don’t have a wedding planner, please stop what you’re doing and hire an experienced planner NOW. You won’t regret it and your other vendors will love you for it!

Heather and Rob, I can’t wait for your November wedding!

I love this shot, probably my favorite. I just love the pink wall at the Blue Star, yayness!

I love it when couples can have fun and be themselves.

Sunset brings such pretty colored light.

Ok, let me explain. Rob is a huge Star Wars fan and he brought along a fun prop as a bit of a joke, but since I’m a total Sci-Fi geek I loved it. I think Heather’s expression explains her feelings, but she was a great sport!

Austin Photography :: Family Portraits

Today we’re taking a break from our usual wedding photography and Wendi’s food features to bring you a whole lot of cuteness. This family is near and dear to my heart and I’m pleased as punch they allowed us into their home to capture the newest member of their family. Baby N and her big brothers were so much fun we might just consider doing more family shots.

This is my favorite photo because everyone’s personalities are shining through, especially the always entertaining big brother #2.

San Antonio Engagement Session :: Kristin and Cody

I met up with this pair of cuties at the new Pearl Brewery area in San Antonio. When we set the location for Kristin and Cody’s engagement session I didn’t know Cody works for one of the companies involved with the construction of Pearl Brewery. So, in additional to a fun afternoon of photographs Cody filled me in on some of the cool sustainability practices used in the construction.

San Antonio Bridal Portraits :: Katrice

Today we’re featuring the fabulous Katrice. She and Michael were married in early January at The Club at Sonterra in San Antonio. Now that they’ve tied the knot, I can show you Katrice’s bridal session, also done at The Club at Sonterra.

I love fun light. That said I can’t decide which of the next two I like better.

Hill Country Bridals :: Hannah at Circle H Lodge

I am so excited about this portrait session that I’ve been holding off on blogging it until we had this shiny new blog with bigger images. Hannah was a natural in front of the camera and she really had fun playing-up her Texas-chic style. Circle H Lodge at Inks Lake offered the perfect Hill Country backdrop.

I should mention this was a “Mrs.” session done after Hannah’s wedding and I can’t recommend it enough! Everything is so much more relaxed! Most of our brides have their bridals done before the wedding so they can have a canvas gallery wrap or framed print at their reception and I love that great southern tradition, but I’m so excited about the possibilities of a Mrs. session that I’m encouraging all my brides to consider adding it to their package.

To all our 2010 brides, I give you permission to pull on your boots (or whatever suits your fancy), don that fantastically bold jewelry and have a little fun with that dress just like Hannah.

I have a soft spot for the state of Kentucky and every year with the first tease of cool weather in Texas I especially miss those crisp KY mornings when the Sugar Maple trees are ablaze with fall color.

A beautiful afternoon in Austin with Beth and Patrick, both KY natives, was the perfect dose of Kentucky for me. Beth, your accent makes me smile!

Austin Engagement Session :: Karen and Wade

I’m always a little nervous when the first time I meet a couple in person is at a portrait session. Building a rapport before a session helps me learn about the couple and helps them have a comfort level with me and the camera. My worries were quickly put to rest when I met Karen and Wade on a gorgeous fall day in Austin, TX. I could not have asked for a more relaxed, laid-back couple. Although Karen admits to not being very into the wedding planning these two are so personable and easy going I’m certain their Charleston, SC wedding will be fabulous.

My favorite! I love the texture of the door especially in b&w.

I really like the graffiti on the lower right corner.

I think they were hoping I was joking when I asked them to sit inside a large concrete culvert that we stumbled upon. This was shot through a hole in the side of the culvert.

Same set of doors from the first photo but in color. Still just as awesome.

San Antonio Bridal Portraits :: Southwest School of Art and Craft

Ashley is a trooper! Braving 95+ degrees for her bridal portraits is my idea of determination. And she looked fabulous the whole time. Our photo shoot was at the at the beautiful and very welcoming Southwest School of Art and Craft in downtown San Antonio. Ashley and her mom were just as much fun as they were at our first meeting. I knew the wedding would be a blast and it was, but more about that in another post. So, wWithout further ado here are some of my favorites from the day.

I love this black and white. In technical photography jargon — it’s just kinda cool.

Love the glow of the sun in this photo.

This is really my favorite — the blue chairs peeking out and that fabulous smile.

Portrait fun!

Today I invited my friends, the Isenhowers, down to the garage studio to do some portraits. I am working on a prospective job and wanted to show the client what I saw for the job. So, I set up the white back drop and tried to do some non portraity portraits. It was a lot of fun and I think turned out pretty well. These are the results.

I put three of the photos of Christina together to do a fun triptych.
