Houston Engagement Portraits in the Heights :: Chris & Karen

Say Hello to Chris and Karen. You’ve seen them here before in part one of their engagement shoot in the bluebonnets. Today, we’re hanging out in the Heights, a funky fun area Northwest of downtown Houston. Chris and Karen are just so dang cute it’s impossible not to have fun with them and I’m super excited about their upcoming wedding.

Chris and Karen are getting married at an old theater, The Majestic Metro so we had fun trying our hand at some romantic comedy movie poster poses. I can’t wait to see these in poster size in the big frames at The Majestic.

Now if you are ever in the Heights on a hot summer day be sure to stop in at Mam’s House of Ice for a Snoball. They are awesome at this Heights hot spot. My favorite flavor is Wedding Cake, but Karen’s Tangerine was pretty tasty too.

Junior League of Houston Bridal Portraits :: Stephanie

We dedicate today to the lovely Stephanie! Remember when I got to be the photographer-in-disguise to capture her surprise proposal? Stephanie and I had more fun than should be allowed shooting her bridal portraits. There was dancing to music that didn’t exist and jumping fences in a wedding gown. Really! We started at the lovely Junior League of Houston then Stephanie pulled on some killer kicks (a gift from her grandad!) and we headed to the country.

Austin Engagement Session at Antone’s :: Channing & Roy

Antone’s has been a major force in the Austin live music scene since 1975 and has hosted some of the biggest names in music. All fame aside, for Channing and Roy it will forever be the place they first met. I was thrilled when Channing suggested we drop in during their engagement session because something magical happens when a couple is in a place or situation that is meaningful for them. It’s transformative. You move beyond a nice picture to something deeper – a glimpse into the bigger story of their life together with a hint of all the little things that brought them to this day. Channing and Roy did not disappoint! Look at these two! 100% completely in love, in the place where it all started, lost in their own private story and totally oblivious to the camera!

After living here for 9 years I finally feel like a true Texan. I have navigated that Spring time rite of passage of taking portraits in a field of Bluebonnets! Here in the Lone Star State we eagerly await the annual arrival of the state wildflower and in a good year we are treated to roadsides and fields covered in a sea of bluebonnets.

The bluebonnets are no stranger to my lens but this was my first official engagement session among the blooms. The lovely Karen gets all the credit. She emailed me asking if we could include bluebonnets in her engagement session. We decided to do a quick shoot weeks before our full engagement session to make sure the flowers were still in bloom. No arm twisting necessary to spend time with these two! They are so adorable together!

Another dose of the fabulous ladies of Well Styled for you today. This time, help me give a warm Texas welcome to Becca! She is my kind of girl. We hit it off right away. And why shouldn’t we? She is from Louisville, Kentucky (oh how I miss Fall in Kentucky) and loves finding great food. I think Austin will suit her well.

I also would like to say this girl rocks fashion like no other. Do yourself a favor and give Well Styled a call. Whether you need a fashion intervention or just some help picking out new clothes for a special event they can do wonders and I promise you’ll have fun!

Austin Portraits :: Meet Laurel of Well Styled

I can’t express how much fun I had shooting these portraits. Laurel is a new stylist with Well Styled in Austin. She is a so much fun and I wish I had half her sense of style. She can transform a black dress just by adding a few different accessories. You can find Laurel on the Well Styled blog and her personal blog, Trophy Boutique, where she photographs many of the outfits she wears.

Laurel was a dream to work with as she naturally knows how to move and pose. Thanks Laurel!

I’m excited for you to meet Candis and Jason. These two cuties said they didn’t want a mushy photoshoot for their engagement session and I was thrilled to oblige! If you’ve been following this little blog you know I’m biased toward authentic truthful images that reflect a couple as they really are and these two are fun and laid-back so the beach, putt-putt golf and a little construction equipment was perfect. Stay turned for more of these two. Bridal portraits and their wedding are coming soon!

Houston Portraits :: Golden Family

I’ve been seeing this field of yellow flowers near my house and have been longing to use it as a backdrop. So, so lovely. I even dragged my dog Chewie out their and bribed him with treats to “model” for me — very entertaining! When fellow photographer & friend, Jonathan Golden, asked me about doing some family photos I immediately knew we had to use the yellow field. Jonathan and his family, including one month old baby Asher, were awesome.

Wow, I had a great afternoon in Austin having fun and laughing a lot with Heather and Rob. We started their engagement session at the site of their first date, the fabulous Blue Star Cafeteria. A huge thank you to Nathan and everyone at Blue Star for being so accommodating. We ended the day perched high above Austin at Mt. Bonnell with a stunning sunset.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t give a shout-out to Heather’s wedding planner, Cortney Zieky of BZ Events for always being on top of the details! Brides, if you don’t have a wedding planner, please stop what you’re doing and hire an experienced planner NOW. You won’t regret it and your other vendors will love you for it!

Heather and Rob, I can’t wait for your November wedding!

Sunset brings such pretty colored light.

Ok, let me explain. Rob is a huge Star Wars fan and he brought along a fun prop as a bit of a joke, but since I’m a total Sci-Fi geek I loved it. I think Heather’s expression explains her feelings, but she was a great sport!
