Happy 10th Anniversary!

July 27th, 2012  |  Posted in personal

So today is our 10th Anniversary! Wow, I can’t believe it has been 10 years. Yayness! I couldn’t have asked for a better person to spend my life with than Rick. And so I will share with you our crazy tradition. We exchange gifts for our anniversary according to the traditional anniversary gifts. This year it’s Tin or Aluminum. The photo is Rick’s gift; it takes some explanation.

First, I love mints — well candy in general, but mints are pretty yummy. When Rick proposed he used an Altoids tin to hide the ring. (There is a funny story there, ask me some time.) So I thought it was prefect to get him Altoids. They come in a tin that is made of aluminum.  I also bought him 10 tins. Get the theme.

Second, a aluminum card with the words TEN imprinted on it. This takes a little more explaining. The card is designed to fit in his wallet and so he can carry it around and when he sees it he’ll think of me. Why the word, TEN?  Inside joke.  A few Christmases ago we were singing the 12 Days of Christmas in the car together, but making up our own lyrics. All was well, Rick would sing one day and I the next and so on. Well the time came for the tenth day and it fell on me. I blurted out TEN real loud and then nothing, complete silence. You know that weird awkward silence. Well of course Rick couldn’t forget about such a funny thing. Now I am constantly reminded of my brain fart. I actually find it amusing and whenever we have one of those times when you try and say something but the words just don’t come out or your mind just goes blank we say TEN and laugh. I thought about putting all kinds of love quotes on the card or something from one of our favorite books but that was not us. So, TEN, it is and I hope whenever he looks at it he’ll laugh and think of me and all my goofiness.

Happy Tenth Anniversary Rick and here’s to many more. Oh and if anyone needs some Altoids we have like 10 boxes so give me a call.

Happy Easter! Merry Spring!

April 22nd, 2011  |  Posted in personal, uncategorized

I want to wish everyone a Happy Easter.  This year Easter and my birthday coincide for the first time I can remember.  That’s all kinds of awesomeness because Easter is my all time favorite holiday.  One of my favorite traditions growing up (and still is today!) is the Easter egg hunt.  Hope you enjoy this little blast from my past!

And, yes I had a perm.  It was the eighties!

Yes, I do realize this table is set for Thanksgiving and we’re already well into December. But, everything about this photo speaks to me and I wanted to share.    This setting invites me in and makes me want to stay for a long time.  Can’t you just imagine the food, laughter and storytelling?  I hope during this time of celebration and reflection you find yourself surrounded by all the things that make you want to “sit and stay awhile.”

Thanks to the incredibly talented Viridian Design Studio for showing us once again the power of good design.  Delicious chocolates by Delysia.

Merry Christmas From The Pooles!

December 23rd, 2010  |  Posted in personal, uncategorized

I grew in the south and always dreamed of a white Christmas and sadly that never happened. But this year Rick and I had fun in Seattle right before Thanksgiving and were surprised by a freak snow storm. I thought I’d share some of those photos.

I love the sneaky Wendi in the corner out of focus! oh yeah the pink hat was a impulse buy on the way to the market. I didn’t pack a hat and my ears were cold!

Before I go I wanted to share a Christmas story that always makes me smile. A few years ago I went to a midnight candlelight Christmas Eve service. I go to a candlelight service ever year but never at midnight. It was really cool but what struck me came from a 2 year old sitting behind me. During the lighting of the candles at the end of the service as everyone started singing Silent Night I heard a little voice singing Happy Birthday. Turning around with a chuckle I saw her with her parents singing her own song. Her parents, who seemed slightly embarrassed and humored at the same time, made it a point to say that she sings Happy Birthday whenever someone lights candles. To me it was beautiful and prefect.

I hope your Christmas is full of love, joy and maybe some snow!

Fun Food Friday :: ASMP BBQ Road Trip Part 2

November 5th, 2010  |  Posted in fun food friday, personal

Welcome to Texas, the land of meat and BBQ. This past month the Houston ASMP decided, after many requests, to do another BBQ road trip to Luling and Lockhart. This time ASMP Austin San Antonio had a strong showing too. It was a lot of fun and I found couple new yummy things. Take a peek and please let me know if you ever want to make a trip out to the BBQ Capital of the World!

I love how all the BBQ guys wear the hard hats. It’s a tough job.

I love this sign. The smoke has colored it over the years and it just makes me smile.

Todd Spoth knows the secret of a good Texas BBQ experience, Big Red. I wish I had a tally of how many Big Reds people drank on this trip.

Sausage Sandwich at Luling. I so want one now.

The crowd at my favorite place, Luling City Market.

Waiting at Smitty’s. Mmmmm…pork chops.

Dave Einsel’s Meat order.

Dave’s tower of meat, yes he finished it.

And so Dave thought he’d do a little exercise.

To cap off the day of meat we stopped at Black’s for dessert. There are two great things here, peach cobbler and the BBQ turkey. Probably the best turkey I have ever had. yum yum yum.

Also, I’ll share in closing a great quote I saw today. “Stressed? Spell it backwards for the cure. Desserts,” author unknown.
